The SEF or Self Evalution Form  
This is the document that states out targets for each academic year and is used by OFSTED to inspect our setting.
It is a lengthy document that can be viewed at the setting.  Below are the targets for the year 2011 to 2012.

Quality of Provision
Target
To continue with using ECAT as a monitoring and summative assessment for the children at Tibberton Early years.  To use the information to support children’s learning and development.

How will this benefit the children?
The children will have staff supporting them who are more confident with CLL and especially the development of speech and their ability to extend and support this area of learning.
The children will have a secure grounding in story culture and language giving them tools and confidence for later writing skills.
How will this be achieved?
All staff will take part in collecting and discussing evidence. Staff will use staff meeting time to discuss.
When will it be done?
Autumn 2011 to Autumn 2012
Success Criteria
Staff will be more confident at assessing and observing Speech and CLL in children’s play. The staff will be able to develop their knowledge through moderation and discussion.

Outcomes for Children
The extent to which children achieve and enjoy their learning
Target
To continue with participation in the Sightlines project teaching the children to use the cameras and to take part in the national exhibition.
Who will do it?
All staff will help children to use the cameras and to encourage them to record their ideas and feelings through the digital media.
When will it start to happen?
Autumn 2010 and continue through 2011 to 2012
Success Criteria
The process is USEFUL and helps us to focus on children’s learning and the development of their experiences. There is an exhibition of the children’s work nationally.  the use of cameras and reviewing , titling and displaying photos becomes part of the day to day running of the nursery.
Regular reviews will be needed until end of project in summer 2012

The extent to which children feel safe
Target
To design and use risk assessment sheets for the following areas, Inside environment, Garden, Piazza outside area
on one paper sheet so a copy is kept and included with the kitchen check before a session.
Benefits for the children?
The children will be in safer environments 
Who will do it?
Amanda Horniman and Fiona Gordon will review.
How will it be achieved
Paper assessment sheet will be designed and put into relevant kitchen area to be done in the morning before each session.
When will it be done?
Starting September 201
Success Criteria
Areas will be more rigorously risk assessed benefiting the children’s safety. discussion a review or before to assess the validity and constancy of the process.

The extent to which children adopt healthy lifestyles

The extent to which children make a positive contribution
Target
To continue to encourage children and their families to join with school community and the village community too through befriending James the Guide dog puppy.  to run a fundraising event that the children have helped organise.
Benefits to the Children?
The children will understand and appreciate their surrounding community and feel part of the local area and the school whilst benefitting form the experience of having a growing puppy to look after and help develop into a guide dog.
Who will do it?
Children and all staff. To be led by Amanda and supported by Mandi Pearce, Puppy Walker
What will be done?
Establish routines with puppy walker
To visit the local community with puppy and to make him welcome at nursery.
When will it be done?
During the academic year 2011 to 2012
Success Criteria
The children will partake in activities with the puppy and the association guide dogs for the blind.

The extent to which children develop skills for the future
Target
To continue to forge links with the school and the local community and to take part in the national and regional photography research project.
Benefits to the children?
The children will benefit form exploring and creating with photography and they will have a chance to express their voice through photos.
How will it be achieved
All children and staff as well as sightlines Initiative who are sponsoring the project.
Encouraging the children to use the cameras and equipment and providing them with the opportunities to use ICT to support their interests. Also to encourage and support staffs ICT photography skills.
When will it be done?
Continuously, starting September 2010
Success criteria
Children will see cameras as part of their creative learning and play experiences. Adults will be confident with digital photography.  Exhibition of photos

Leadership & Management

The effectiveness of leadership and management in embedding ambition and driving improvement
Target
To support and scaffold staff's training and development
Benefits to children?
The children will benefit from more knowledgeable and confidant staff in this area of learning.
Who will do it?
All staff will support colleagues and become mentors as appropriate.
 How will this be achieved?
Staff meetings and mentor meetings as well as scheduled discussions and research elements in every day running of the setting.
Staff will continue to complete EYPs and Master courses as well as story telling course.
When will it be done?
Autumn 2010 to Autumn 2011

Target
To continue to encourage children and their families to join with school community and the village community too through befriending James the Guide dog puppy. Add guide dog books and braille books to the books available to the children.

To continue to review and use the SEF form, but to present it in a journal form, so it could be used as a working document. Present updated SEF to Parents Forum.

The children will get the chance to mix with the school children; There will be a seamless start to school. Staff will understand the school and policies more and will be able to work towards a more cohesive approach.
How will this be achieved?
Amanda will attend staff meeting and in-service days and feed back to nursery staff.

To continue to support the Parent's Forum
How will the children benefit?
The children and families point of views will be represented at these Forums. Staff and parents can work more closely together. There will be greater understanding of issues and ideas.

Regular meetings and monitoring effectiveness of the forum.

The effectiveness of leadership and management in the Early Years Foundation Stage
Target
To continue with monitoring the progress of the nursery and to keep the SEF up to date
How will the children benefit?
The children benefit from a well managed Nursery by having all equipment and staff ready to play when they arrive. They benefit from systems being in place to protect them and keep them safe as well as stimulated and cared for.
How will this be achieved?
Regular monitoring and reviewing of targets and SEF information with all staff at staff meetings once a month and in-service days.

SEF is reviewed and updated.
Targets are discussed, success criteria assessed and impacts judged.

The capacity of the provision to maintain continuous improvement
Target
To continue with using the SEF form as a nursery improvement and development. To use as a display.
How will the children benefit?
The children will benefit from a cohesive practice which is maintaining continuous improvement.
How will it be achieved?
All staff will contribute. Views of the children will be reflected and the parents and community consulted as well. It will be reviewed at staff meetings, regular in-service days and as a backbone to Nursery policy ad practice.
